What is a good methodology to estimate cost, specifically time involved, for deploying SCCM apps? We have a project to package and automate the deployment of ~200 apps that are not in SCCM at all.
Here are some factors I can think of:
- Categorize apps by complexity, e.g. simple, medium, complex - then give each a bucket of hours (e.g. 2, 4, 8 hours)
- How many endpoints
- How many groups for phased deployments
- Documentation (if applicable)
- Organizational factors such as change management and user acceptance (from SMEs / app owners)
- SCCM client health (for compliance mostly, making sure all reported clients are actually active, can connect to DPs, etc.)
Lastly, we're looking into possibly purchasing packaging tools like PatchMyPC, however not all the apps we need to deploy are in the PatchMyPC catalog. How could we justify this type of purchase for only part of the apps we need to deploy? Are there alternatives that are better than PatchMyPC?
