While I wish to leave no ill will on my building or my current neighbors, the current situation is wanting me to find a way to leave some sort of intention behind that makes it difficult for the owner and property management to rent out after Iām gone.
For a quick backstory, Iāve lived in my current place for the past three years. Iāve rebuilt my life and made a stable home for my kids after a difficult life transition. This space has been meaningful to me. I have fought for the building to be taken care of, I have improved and done my best as a renter to take care of the building, because it was my home. Iāve gone through 3 property managements in that time, all with an owner far out of state and only sees this place as money maker, not peopleās home. I recently got a notice that I was not going to get a lease renewal because he wants to ārenovateā my unit to bring it āup to current market pricesā and my unit is the easiest to start with.
So, Iāve been in a stressful situation trying figure out next steps without any empathy or flexibility from the owner or property management.
Like I said, I donāt want to inflict any difficulties on my lovely neighbors after Iām gone, nor the innocent building that homes these people. I do, however, want to ensure both the property management and owner receive the business they deserve. A little karmic justice to leave behind for the choices they make in contributing to the housing crisis and putting a single parent out for no good reason than to make more money.
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
