Snow has fallen over Seattle. One of those rare days when it’s not the soot filled rain. That means that Seattlites get to show off their lack of driving skills and Gridguide is working overtime to prevent accidents. You forgo driving to get a bite to eat and a soycafe from the nearest diner. You step in and like you, many citizens have opted to dodge the cold with a hot meal and drink. You squeeze into a seat on the counter and wait a long time to get serviced by one of the harasses waitstaff. You’re just about to get your order in when your commlink goes off. The waitress looks at you indignity for you to answer it. It’s a call from your fixer,

“Hoi chummer! Hope you had a good new year and time off. Who am I kidding, time off in this business means no nuyen, you scan? I got a nice gig coming down the pipeline. J said something about protecting a big shot. Weird right? Well scan this: the J let it slip that the guy hates corpsec. Doesn’t trust em at all. Mark is taking a trip and wants runners with him. It’s an out of town gig, I’ll see what I can sling your way ‘bout that. I’ll send ya the dets later. Keep shooting straight omae!”
