Post Body

I will be running the marathon this year for the first time, this is also my first time even experiencing any of it as I wasn’t in the city to watch previously. My family will be in town that weekend and staying on the UES. I’m trying to plan for their visit to fit around the race while also letting them explore the city and not need to rely on me to help them around since I’ll be busy for a large chunk of the weekend. In terms of getting around (they’re not comfortable using subway without me) they’re fine paying for Uber’s but I’m concerned about streets being blocked off, traffic, price hike, etc. Are these all valid things to be aware of that Sunday in particular? Also are things open that day for them to be able to do? Their hotel is walking distance to the Met and they open at 10 on Sundays but will that be closed since it’s right on the course? I suggested they visit to kill some time before I get to that part of the course since they would be conveniently located going from the Met to the race but don’t know how realistic that would actually be. I’m in wave 1 and am expecting to be done by early afternoon but not sure how easy it will be to meet up. Since they’re staying near the course I told them to just watch from the 80’s on 5th avenue but would it be difficult for them to take an Uber to the end to be able to meet me? I also want to bring them to the expo with me to pick up my bib, will it be a long wait, I know there will be a lot of people but will there be a lot of standing around, I don’t want to drag them there since it’s sort of out of the way from touristy stuff just to stand in lines. My parents are older and can’t do a ton of walking/standing so just want to be prepared.
