[Question] am I dumb or is finding directions really that difficult?

I LOVE the game, really, must be one of the best turn based combat systems I ever played.
However there is one thing and it's driving me crazy: i never know how to get to a specific place. There is no directions marker showing me where to head next right? Do I really have to study all maps to see which exits lead to which places and find my way through it? Or am I missing something? Thanks!
