I am very confused about the crime in Ruidoso. I live in a mountain town very similar in size to Ruidoso but in Colorado. I am looking at this website for the stats: https://www.areavibes.com/ruidoso-nm/crime/. It showed 25 murders in 2019 alone. I checked a few other sites and they all showed the same. I can count two murders in seven years where I live now so those numbers for Ruidoso are very alarming to me.
So what is the big driver for such high crime rates in general let alone murder? The crime rate is so much higher than the national average and I can't understand why.
I am asking because I have thought about my wife and I retiring there, and I thought it was a great possibility until I saw the crime data.
Any help would be great, thanks.
