I live in an apartment building and my main service is boarding. Daycare gigs are slim (and every time I book one, the dog ends up being a bad fit for whatever reason) and due to my location and lack of car, walks, drop-ins, and housesitting are all bad options for me.
My apartment building has a decent amount of dogs in it, and I can say for sure that they are allowed in general, not just under ESA rules and stuff. I had a very concise conversation with my previous property manager that basically went like this:
Me: Can I start dog sitting here?
Property manager: Yes, as long as the dogs don't cause property damage.
Easy peasy! But alas, that property manager is gone now, and I doubt he passed any info on to his replacement. I have yet to meet the new property manager, and I'm feeling stuck on how I should approach the issue. I don't really know if I should announce it, ask for permission again, or just leave it because I had previous permission and it has been a non-issue. For clarity, the realty company that owns the building is the same, the person who manages the building is just different.
I'm just anxious that I'm going to end up losing the one job I've been able to manage having while I'm in college, and I don't know how to approach it with a property manager I don't know well. I had good rapport with the previous property manager so discussing with him was a breeze, but now I'm just unsure how to go forward.
So, for those of you who rent, how have you discussed your situation with your property manager/landlord? Any tips for how I should approach this?
