Help with Mystic

For some reason I can't manage to even hit lvl 20 with mystic. I've had a couple 2/8s and one 3/8 but I can't do anything with a mystic. Any tips on how to get gear early on and how to effectively use a mystic? EDIT:I currently have horror, timeclock, master and sup hp. I've been farming pots non stop and am trying to max def first. Any tips on what i should do now? Btw i have about 250 fame
