What does this formula mean?
Psi = press pressure divided by bag size
Is press pressure here current reading on gauge or max pressure
How do we use this formula?
Ex: I have a 12 ton nugsmasher xp and am using 2.6 x 3 inch bags bottle tech style
Here’s my guess
2.6 inch bottle tech would mean we use the area of a circle instead of the rectangular bag.
5.31 is the result of the area of a circle with a 2.6 inch diameter (3.142 * 1.3)
Given a 12 ton press I have 24000 units of something’s
24000/5.31 = 4520 psi
So here’s what I don’t get - does that mean my max reading in my press means 4520?
Can anyone help clarify this?
Hello. Here's how to figure out how much psi you need at the pressure gauge from a given psi you want to hit at your material. Let's say we want 1200 psi on your bag. Take the bags surface area in this case 5.31 square Inches and multiply by 1200 psi. This gives us a force output requirement of 6372pounds to hit 1200 psi across that 5.31 square inches. Now we need the active surface area of the 12ton ram which should be 1.84 square inches. Take the the poundage required and divide by the active surface area of your ram to get the psi requirement on your pressure gauge. 6372/1.84 = 3463 psi at the gauge is required to hit 1200 psi across 5.31 square inches
