Our friend (F) lives in Troutdale and she's been asking us to go with her to Rooster Rock for years now and over the past few weeks, we've been able to make it there a couple of times. Each time though, it was, well, it was pretty sad to see that almost no one else was exercising their right to be nude, or even partially nude! It made us feel pretty uncomfortable, to be honest. I'm used to be ogled at, but that made my friend and I really uncomfortable. We went again to see if it was fluke but the second time was just as bad, if not worse.
There's only one of two nude friendly beaches around right? Collins being the other? Do these people realize how uncomfortable they are making some of the others there or do they just not care?
While there we were looking at IG and X and saw a lot of posts complaining about all these textiles but no one mentioned what an average is. My husband started to count all the textiles and stopped at 80. When he went back over the same area, he counted 7 nude (topless and/or bottomless). SEVEN! That was it. That's 80:7 clothed to nude ratio! From all the nude and clothing optional beaches I've ever been to, this seems insane! We left when we realized that three of us were completely surrounded by textiles - the three of us were surrounded by 18 clothed people.
For such a sex-positive and normally respectful community towards others, this seemed really rude, gross, mean, invasive, creepy, and depressing. And look, i know it's clothing optional but as another person put it, (here maybe) they said that these places were like safe-spaces for nudists, wearing clothes to them desecrates these safe-spaces. I've never been one to even think twice about those who wear clothes to a beach that is a clothing option beach, but after these, i understand why so many are full of passion when talking about textiles.
We're going to check out Collins next, though we've also read a lot of complaints about the textiles there as well. Fingers crossed that it's not as bad there!
