How do I fix this?
Post Body

A set of heavy storms came through this past weekend, torrential rain, flash floods, thunder storms, high winds, the works. My roommate gets home and spots this leak. I clean up the water and grab a bucket. I go into the crawl space, find the leak, grab a bucket. It looks like the plank supporting the roof split, and two nails going through it became seams for water drip. After the rain subsided, I went on the roof, and saw what appears to be missing shingles and some exposed nails in the spot where the attic is leaking.

I don’t know if homeowners will cover this and I’ve only been in this house 5 months. I also don’t want to raise the risk of not being able to renew. I’m a mechanic, not much of a carpenter, I just want to know is this fixable? Can I tackle this myself or do I need to call a pro ?
