I really like smutty romance.
I love old classics, Anne of Green Gables being my favorite series. I ADORE the kind of idyllic farm life kind of stories.
I figured I could swallow a bit of God in a book and try Amish romance, so I started The Christmas Visitor. And the God bits were fine. I donāt like it much, but itās wasnāt too terrible. I thought I can take it.
But I CAN NOT and WILL NOT tolerate is child abuse, negligence and exploitation of child labor ALL ROMANTICIZED.
If your child suffers a serious head injury, you take them to a doctor. Even if you have to borrow for money from friends and parents, and it hurts your āprideā, you make sure they are fine.
If they have a āterrible case of sore throatā you donāt just pump them with herbs and Tylenol.
Planning to improve your finances when your sons are old enough to work AT FOURTEEN is far from normal.
And saying that it is somehow a great way to raise children to hit them is not okay.
I am so furious with this book. Are all Amish romance books like this? Is there something that is about peaceful farm life, but without the copious amounts of sexism and questionable ideas?
I just like the hard-but-pleasant farm work and living slow, quiet and close to nature.
EDIT: I understand I came off very disregarding the whole genre, i am really sorry about it. My intention was to ask if all Amish romance books had things like this, or if I could find something to my liking in the genre. I also really wanted to get the praises child abuse rant off my chest, but I am truly sorry that my tone ended up too harsh.
