I am actually losing sleep over the fact that Iāve been searching for this book for 6 months now and still cannot find it. Iām convinced I may have hallucinated the whole thing.
I picked it up in an airport like 5 years ago and read it on a long flight but lost it on the trip. Didnāt think about it again until this past year and I really will not be able to rest until I find it.
Itās a historical romance. The book is set in America, post the end of WWI . The MMC owned a furniture shop and was German. That was significant because a lot of German-Americans were experiencing violence and harassment as a result of the war. I specifically remember āsouerkrautā being used in a derogatory way towards the MMC. At some point in the book his furniture shop is broken into and I think almost destroyed. The twist in the book came at the end because it is revealed he was a ghost and dead the whole time. I remember sobbing on the plane ride from this book but I really canāt remember much more about the book than that. I donāt remember a single thing about the FMC to be honest.
If you have any idea what book this could be I would be eternally grateful and my sanity would be indebted to you.
