The date had been circled on my calendar in the kitchen for months, two big black circles that contained the words "road trip".
The car is packed, the first leg mapped out, and we're hitting the road first thing in the morning. We had a number of stops that we wanted to hit along the way. The normal iconic stops like the Grand Canyon, Chicago, New Orleans, and San Diego, but truth be told it wasn't the stunning scenic views that I was looking forward to, indeed the locations I looked forward to included seedy motels, off beaten wooded tracks, and dens of vice.
My daughter and I are more than just family, we're much closer than that, and this trip might be the last time we get to spend so much time together. So for me, the focus of this trip is less about the stunning natural vistas, exciting foods to try, or even just the thrill of the open road, and more about what happens when we turn in for the night.
