When I was young I loved history. And as I grew older that fascination branched off into mythology, sometimes dabbling in the occult, mostly for curiosity. As time went on the world went to war with Germany again and I found my studies halted as I was drafted into the military. In my time I saw and did things that would change most men. The Germans had their own experts combing through myth and legend, trying to find weapons or objects of power and because of my education, I was assigned to a special unit. The job was the same thing, only with the added danger of being shot.
After the war I went back to get my degree, only to be presented one because of my 'work' over seas. So I tried civilian life for awhile, even became an assistant professor at my local college. But every time I slept or walked home in the night I was confronted with the truth, our world was way more the meets the eye. I had fought literal demons, braved parts of the world that hadn't seen a man in centuries in search of creatures only whispered of.
Eventually I figured civilian life wasn't for me anymore, so I set out on my own. I had tried working with museums, only to figure out that most of the artifacts I found went straight to the black market. After...falling out with my employers, I went into business myself. Which is why I found myself in the depths of the Amazon.
I had gotten intel from a good friend of mine from my soldier days. Told me about a ruin deep in the rainforest. What might have been a large city, but none of it matched any known culture. After some digging and a chat with some of the old German Occultists that had been confined to The Hage, we were sure that it was a Fairy ruin. Fay lore had always been tricky, but every human culture around had always had tales of Fairies. Sure, there were sites in Europe and the Orent but this was the first time we'd found anything of the sort in the Americas.
I had set out alone, just to confirm its existence. The plan was for me to find it, then double back to Rio where we would make the preparations for a proper expedition. And after 3 long weeks, I found it.
I encountered a tribe about a week ago, the first one not to outright try to kill me, in my time there I found out they knew exactly where the ruin was. They were even willing to give me directions, in exchange, I had to carry an odd looking jewel to the very center of the ruined city. They got real cagey everytime I pressed for information but I didn't see the harm, so I took the deal.
I had arrived just before night fall, thank Christ. And what I was greeted with left me stunned. Roads, aqueducts, multi story buildings. The makings of a city too modern for the time it supposedly existed in. In the center of it all, a huge temple like structure, in better shape then most of the crumbling ruins around me.
I had figured that was an improvement, so I sent out for it. Reaching the main hall just as night set in. After making camp I laid down to sleep. In the morning I would start mapping the place out, but in my sleep, the jewel in my bag glowed. And soon, I awoke to a world very different than my own.
