Ash had survived the apocalypse by keeping to themselves, avoiding the gangs of raiders that roamed the desolate landscape. They had learned to scavenge for food and water, and how to defend themselves against anyone who might try to take it away from them.

One day, as they were walking through the ruins of an old city, they heard a faint cry for help. They followed the sound and found a young woman lying in the rubble, badly injured and barely conscious. Her name was Sky, and she had been attacked by a group of raiders.

Ash hesitated for a moment, unsure if they should help her. They had learned the hard way that trust was a luxury in this world, and they didn't know if they could afford to take on the burden of caring for someone else. But as they looked at Sky's pale face and her desperate eyes, they felt a pang of compassion. They knew they couldn't leave her there to die.

They carried Sky to a nearby abandoned building and laid her down on a makeshift bed. They cleaned her wounds and gave her water and some of the food they had scavenged. At first, Sky was wary of them, but as the days passed and Ash cared for her, she began to trust them. They talked about the world before the apocalypse and their dreams for the future. Ash found themselves opening up to her in a way they never had with anyone else.

But as Sky's strength returned, Ash noticed a change in her. She became more distant and secretive, and they sensed that she was hiding something from them. They tried to ask her about it, but she always evaded their questions. Ash began to worry that she might be planning to betray them, but they didn't know what they could do to stop her. They had grown too attached to her to imagine life without her.

One night, as they sat around a small fire, Sky finally spoke up. "Ash, there's something I need to tell you," she said, her voice trembling. "I'm part of a group of survivors who are trying to rebuild the world. We need people like you, people who are strong and resourceful. Will you come with me?"

Ash was torn. They had always dreamed of finding a community of survivors who were working to make the world a better place. But they also knew that they couldn't blindly trust anyone, not in this world. They looked at Sky, searching her face for any sign of deception.

In the end, they made their decision. "I'll come with you," they said. "But on one condition. You have to tell me everything about your group, who they are, what they want. And if I ever sense that you're lying to me or trying to hurt me, I'll be gone in a heartbeat."

Sky nodded, tears in her eyes. "I understand," she said. "Thank you, Ash. I won't let you down."
