The base premise is about two people coming together with their own set of issues/past and finding some kind of solace together but it can be done in so many ways, I'll put some examples below

Prisoners: Life brought them in prison, learning the harsh ways to survive in the prison while developing a bond. Prison can have the goons issue, every goons wants to have a control, there can be officers too involved in ways. Two people who either might be innocent or did something without having much choice, that we can develop through discussion, end up here. It can focus on their rise in the prison itself or them making through it and then eventually getting out to make a life. One way can also be that one is prisoner (supposedly the male), the other can be related to someone else in prison, someone who doesn't have to be in prison all time but visits, may have some right to meet someone.

Solo Trip: They both decide to go on a trip by themselves, maybe tired or frustrated with personal life, feeling something low about it, and they come across each other. It will develop from there as the two strangers form friendship and more through the travel, a peace they were seeking.

College: College is supposed to be fun outlet but not everyone is the same, some have a great time, some are sad, some put on a smile with broken emotions and what not. So if two people find each other in such environment, they might actually get the friend they always needed.

Border: After the death of father/brother or lover a woman gets into army, focused and sharp and eventually gets posted to a location. A guy who lives near border area or left life behind to be around here meets her.
