Your dad was really doing this! After 2 hours in the car, you’re on a dirt road, the dust billowing behind you in a long grey cloud. There’s nothing but rolling fields as far as the eye can see. Did he deliberately find a place in the exact centre of nowhere?
The car slows, and you see a driveway with a cart beside it. On the cart are stacks of egg cartons and a wooden box. The sign on the box simply says $10. No people around. This idiot must get robbed blind, you think. You look at your phone to see where you are. No signal. Seriously?????
Dad pulls into a long driveway. At the end is a small but well kept single story house. There’s a huge, old fashioned TV antenna attached to the roof. No satellite dish or anything
You see me, sitting on the screened in front porch in a rocking chair (seriously? How much more cliche can this get?). I walk to the car as Dad stops. I’m about 5’8, maybe 200 pounds, wearing well worn jeans, cowboy boots and a sleeveless shirt. My arms look strong and are tattooed. My grey hair is short and neat, and a Stetson sits angled low on my brow. A grey goatee is on my well tanned face.
Your Dad gets out and comes to me. We hug like old friends. Your Dad motions for you to get out of the car.
