Adrian had his spear to his side and was listening to his tribes chief. A familiar hiss and slight constriction around his forearm alerted him to his companion. Smiling he found her headspace and bound with her yet again.

“Sarenth? It’s been a while. You said you would take no longer than an hour.”

He could hear what sounded like a human female in his head laugh lightly. The distinct S’s though showing that it was truly her.

“oh we’re keeping track of time now? I’ll make sure to remember that when you get a mate.”

Adrian’s cheeks flared at her voice. He could not stifle a laugh, though.

“why did I have to get stuck with you?”

All she did was laugh in reply and wrap around his neck. Her warm muscular body taking away the slight chill of the night. This was his home, the northern tree tribe. Trees of all types spread about and provided them with shelter, food, and whatever else they could need. What they couldn’t provide was the premonition of the battle that was starting to slowly form.
