Most stories with Demon Lords (Maou from now on because I'm that sort of nerd) and Heroes have both around the same age. The Maou is the final boss, always. A manga I've heard of has the Maou being a bit more rational and deciding to kill the Heroes while they're still weak, which would result in his winning real fast and not needing to worry about the super-powerful Heroes taking him down if successful.
But what if something different happened? My idea is this: What if the Maou took in most of the prophesied Heroes as wards and raised them him/herself? Most members of a Hero's party are orphans, somehow or other. It is rare for them to have still living families, or parents at least. As such, plucking them from orphanages or the street would be pretty easy.
After that, they'd be raised as members of the Maou's Bodyguard, keeping him safe from harm using the powers that would have been used against him if the Maou hadn't used some of the most potent seers in the world to know where and who his most powerful opponents would be as young ones.
Whether that Maou they're bodyguarding is going to be the one who abducted and then raised them or his successor, that could be interesting to look at. Not to mention the different abilities available to play around with in this fantasy setting. I have a few ideas in mind for characters and things for them to do already, but I look forward to hearing your thoughts as well!
