Ignite TV Xi6-T IP Control functionality issues

Post Body

Hi, I'm helping a friend with their new TV set up and ran into a bit of a weird issue. It's not a deal breaker, just a convenience issue.

It's a new 85" Samsung TV and the remote that comes with the TV can be used to control external devices via HDMI-CEC (Samsung calls this Anynet ). It recognizes the Amazon Firestick, Roku, and Blu-Ray devices when connected directly via CEC, it can even control at least the Firestick via CEC (some small reliability issues), didn't test the Roku or Blu-Ray player though.

For the Ignite Box, some googling and ChatGPT, I found I needed to enable IP Control on it, we did that, and it worked. But after cleaning up the set up it stopped working. I was, trying to add an HDMI switch with CEC support, mounting the Ignite Box, Roku, network switch (everything is wired except the Firestick), and power bar to the back of the TV with Velcro (TV is wall mounted and it's a bedroom, so this seemed like a neat and tidy way to do things). Right now, we're not using the HDMI switch since it's not critical at the moment. But what I found that with IP Control enabled, the TV isn't controlling the Ignite Box via IP over the network, it's actually using IR.

Why would IP Control rely on IR? Is IP Control reliant on one or both devices using WiFi? If so, why? If it's IP based, the physical connection should be completely irrelevant.

I'd rather not have to find a way to make this work by moving the Ignite Box or getting an IR receiver/emitter if I don't have to. For now my friend is using both the TV remote and the Ignite remote.

I thought maybe the remote needs to be paired with the Ignite Box, but there's no way to initiate this process or enter the 3 digit code.

Does anyone know how IP Control is supposed to work? What standard (if any) is it based on?

Why wouldn't CEC work?

Interestingly, on the older Samsung 55" TV (over 10 years old) thaty friend has, it recognizes the Ignite Box with CEC, gets the name, and can do basic control without IP Control being enabled.

Any help is greatly appreciate.
