Lost second jump

Is there a certain length of time that the second jump can be stored before it’s lost, or is it dependent on some other factor? I swear I’ve seen videos showing a jump and then 3-4 seconds after leaving the ground the second jump gets used, but it only seems like 1.5-2 seconds for me
