Should I Use Thumbstick Grips/KontrolFreeks ?
Post Body

Hi all, I've been using thumbstick grips on a PS5 controller for a few years now, as below, and am currently sitting around C3/GC1 in 2s, and reckon I could get higher with more hours invested. What I wanted to ask, though, is if there any hindrances or obstacles presented by using these; what are there advantages, besides the added grip, if any; and are these used by pro players?

Also, to note, there have been infrequent occurrences where I will accidentally double jump instead of flipping, however, I cannot deduce whether it is caused by these thumbstick grips themselves, my mechanical inconsistencies; this error is less frequent with higher average hours, my controller aging, or my in-game controller settings. I have also found it near impossible to hit a stall and wall-dash consistently, if that is at all relevant. This could just be me overthinking.

Any advice or clarifications would be greatly appreciated as always. Thanks.

Edit: I thank everyone for their advice on this. I eventually opted for the KontrolFreek ‘Omni’ grips, thanks to the comments I received, which arrived 2 days ago, and I, personally, believe it to have been a great decision, already. Here is my analysis; keep in mind that I tried to be as objective as possible with this, and some points may boil down to personal preference. Of course, it will take weeks to fully adapt to their reduced length, range of motion, and unique indentations; additionally, it is true that the movement speed these harness, is enhanced, in comparison to my former mid-rise/high-rise ‘FPS Freek Galaxy’ grips. Various sources claim that the greater the length of the stick, the greater the range of motion, and accuracy; though, the less the movement speed, as, relative to your in-game sensitivity settings, a longer stick will require an increased distance of thumb motion by the user, from the centre, for any manoeuvre or mechanic to be executed successfully; thus more time would be spent moving the stick, the longer it is, and for a lightning-fast paced game like Rocket League, every fraction of a second matters for competition. As low-rise grips, the Omni’s add a mere 2.5mm of length to each OEM stick, making them short and snappy. Lastly, if that did not convince you to opt for short-rise KontrolFreeks - the best thumb stick grips on the market, by most - such as the Omni or Alpha variations, if the bare stick grip is not sufficient for you, after perusing the Internet, I landed on the official website for these products, and the manufacturers themselves recommended, in text, that the low-rise Omni’s are best for Sports-based games, even citing Rocket League itself. That above, was my thought process for switching to shorter-length grips, and I hope that this post helps anyone else who is in the same position, or as skeptical, as I was.
