Why would the other team kick the crap out of us with crazy awesome goals then forfeit the game when they're winning?

Basically the title, my brain is breaking because it's possibly the kindest trolling I've encountered in a video game. I mean they were doing some serious globetrotter shit, it was like art. What's the logic here? If the goal was to fuck with us it worked perfectly I'm still thinking about this the next day lol. Do smurfs throw games if the other team isn't good enough or something?
