Idea for Psyonix to change controls to make new analogue air roll trend more natural.

Post Body

Changes to what is possible in the controls settings is not unprecedented. At one point there was no directional air roll. It used to be you had to hold a button to air roll. The game recommends through a preset you can make the car air roll through the left and right bumper. But this doesn't provide the control to slow down or speed up the rotation like you did when holding a button and using the analogue stick.

Pro player Zen has found improved air control through setting lt/l2 to one directional air roll in addition to brake. There are 6 axis's the car can rotate on. Zen now having full analogue control of 5 of 6 axis's. And move more smoothly through the are. This is becoming the new meta it seems clear. More air control helps people win. I think it seems a little unnatural not to be able to rotate with analogue control on all 6 axis's. Too bad the gas pedal makes you go slightly faster when held in the air. Can a change be made so that there is a setting for the gas to always be held in the air. And you can use the left and right joystick to air roll as fast or slow as you want to the left or right. I feel like for new players getting into the game it would make way more sense. I don't think that being able to release the gas mid air adds much. Correct me if I'm wrong on that point. And being able to control better in the air is not a new addition. Remember directional air roll would was not originally in the game. Please use the comments to discuss the ramifications of this new proposed control scheme.

here is a new video showing the current analogue air roll possibles. Like I said under current controls you can only do it in one direction.

Two other reasons to add this.
1. In alternate modes like rumble and knockout high level players have trouble making space for binds. This would free up space on the controller.
2. I'm selfish when I learn this new movement mechanic, I want it to be the final version. I'm expecting will get implemented eventually, it seems less awkward and when large chunks of the player base start learning this technique natural controls are better.
