Where to buy raw rocks and other supplies?

Thanks to the kind people on this subreddit, I know what kind of tumbler to buy and where. But where should I buy things like raw rocks and grit? I see shops on Etsy sell plenty of raw rocks, but I don't know if they're legit or not, since some seem to just sell colored glass and claim they're stones. And as for grit, there's plenty of grit choices, what should I do? Where and what is recommended for a beginner?
