Hi all, my lab at UR is running a study to try to understand how the visual system represents linguistic information in spoken and manual forms of language. We're interested in the similarities and differences between these two forms of communication and how deaf folks utilize visual linguistic cues similarly and differently than hearing folks.
For our experiment, you'll be fitted with an EEG cap and while we record the electrical activity on your scalp, you'll watch videos of visual speech and ASL if you're deaf or audiovisual speech if you have a cochlear implant. The whole experiment will last roughly 3 hours total and you will be paid $16/hr for your time in the lab.
Please email us @ [email protected] if you are interested in participating. Make the subject line something to do with visual language (or scan the QR code in the flyer above to do this automatically).
I'm happy to answer any questions about the experiment. And would be grateful for anyone to share our study with deaf friends and family. Thanks!
Our study was approved by University of Rochester Research Subjects Review Board (STUDY#00001527), and this post was approved by the mods (thanks, mods).
