Found this the other night and I think it really illuminates part of the reasoning behind why Rings of Power's writers (among other shows) make the decisions they do.
There's a shift in wanting to make their show appeal and relate to the modern audience, rather than to speak to the timeless themes of Tolkien' work, themes found in myths across the world for thousands of years.
I get the sense that many current tv screenwriters look down on writing for fantasy, whether it's superheros or another world. They feel that genre writing is inherently lacking, so they feel the need to "elevate" it to get with the times or that they can do better.
