This is something that really bothers me. Galadriel and Celeborn have their child close to the start of the Second Age, but both characters are nowhere to be found.
It's just really REALLY strange to me that the show places such emphasis on Galadriel's connection to her brother Finrod, but the apparent loss of her husband is barely a blip on the radar. We see her pay tribute to his memory close to the start of S1, and in S2 she has a vision about Celebrimbor before that same memorial tree. But is never shown to have this same grief over Celeborn. In fact the only time he's mentioned is in her conversation with Theo in S1E7. Her feelings about her husband are unclear. Does she believe he is dead? Does she hold out hope he is alive?
And what of Celebrian? By the way the show presents itself, it doesn't appear that she's even been born yet, which is extremely weird since she's supposed to marry Elrond.
Like... why?
Honestly, I think a huge improvement for the show would have been to switch Galadriel for Celebrian. With their time compression, they could have made her younger than she's supposed to be (she's roughly 3000 by the time Sauron is defeated), which could somewhat excuse the brashness and arrogance the writers are trying to imbue on their protagonist. At least then they wouldn't put themselves in an uphill battle by trying to transform Galadriel from an angsty girlboss archetype to the wise and elegant mystic we see in LotR.
I've seen people theorize that Celeborn is the Elf who fought the Balrog over the Silmaril in the conflict that ended up creating mithril (ugggggh), but... this doesn't really make any sense. The way Gil-Galad and Elrond talk about it, this is some legend, apocrypha... if it involved their friend's husband, SURELY they would know about it? Considering the level of writing we're dealing with, I have the sneaking feeling this is going to be the case.
It seems to me that the show wants Celeborn and Celebrian out of the picture because they're trying to push this awkward Galadriel-Sauron romance... Gauron? Saladriel? Frankly it screams "Twilight" rather than "Tolkien". On that topic, I really hope the writers don't take another Stephanie Meyers plot point and have Elrond fall in love with Celebrian right after she's born...
