Thoughts on Explosives?

I just finished my first playthrough, and I realized that I never once used grenades, molotovs, or my doomsday rocket launcher. The fact that you have to change your weapon to use one of those, and that they can easily damage your own buildings, and that even when invading enemies you don't want to hit your own allies with them by accident, it all makes it so that nobody wants to ever use them, but maybe that's just me. Have you guys ever used them effectively, or at all?
