Corpses keep fighting after death

So I've run into a frustrating issue where semi-irregularly there will be some enemies, that when killed, will just keep shooting as if nothing happened.
Since they are already dead, I can't kill the enemy, which means I now have a scyther lying in my gate shooting at anything that moves by...
Anyone have any idea what causes this or how to fix it?
