First month riding in NYC: multiple covers stolen, bike knocked over, stolen & recovered
Post Body

Let me start by saying this isn’t my first bike. The amazing experience I had in California has been the bane of my existence in NYC.

Although I was warned not to do it by many, I bought a motorcycle in NYC. After checking out and test riding many bikes, I found one I loved and wanted it. I made the stupidest mistake possible though of buying one from someone that financed one. We did the bill of sale and gave him cash to pay off the lien and have the title sent to me. It took his bank 3 weeks to send the paperwork over to me (lien satisfaction notice). I call his bank and asked for the title. They’re a Florida bank and claim they have electronic titles there and don’t do paper ones. They tell me to go to the DMV. I tried going to the DMV and the DMV tells me they don’t have the title and that the bank does. I go and call the bank and once again they tell me to go the DMV. I go BACK to the DMV and they tell me I need the prior owner to request a title. I send the prior owner to the DMV and he requests the title which would then be mailed out.

In this time, it’s not registered and I can’t register it without the title. I want to get a garage to park it but legit noooooooo garages would take me. Even if they advertised they did, they wouldn’t. Went to about 15 different garages. I looked into 2 specialized garages for just motorcycles (ryders alley and I forget the other one) but they wouldn’t accept me without the registration.

So this whole time I’ve been street parking it and hating life. Waking up to it being knocked over/cover stolen twice, if you know how it is to street park then you know how shitty it is. Yesterday morning I woke it to it stolen. I go to make a police report and the cop starts questioning where I was at 4:30am. I tell the officer I was sleeping so it was obviously stolen. He then keeps pressing me that the picture of the tolls going through the Bronx is me. I’m like officer… my white ass isn’t going to the Bronx at 4am it’s clearly stolen. I then go to find out they won’t let me file the police report because I don’t have the title and the prior owner needs to file it. I wait 5 hours for the prior owner to come. When he comes to my place to file it, he gets a call from the Bronx that the stolen bike was found.

The thief was caught robbing a store and the police came and they found my bike (is it even my bike? Who knows at this point lol). We both go to the precinct and the cops are confused and don’t know what to do because the ownership is a grey area. Legit spent hours there. They are okay with me being the owner and filing the report. I go home without the bike and today I get so many phone calls. Different detectives, different cops, you name it. I also found out he popped my ignition out and was able to start it with a screw driver. I have no where safe to bring my bike to. I have to get it fixed as well. I don’t wanna ride it because the police barely accept me as the owner. I’m stuck in libido because I’m still waiting for the fucking title thats been in the mail.

I don’t even want it anymore. I wanna sell it so bad. I’m stuck right now obviously. The police asked for my cooperation in the case so this reminder won’t go away any time soon. It currently sits at a precinct in the Bronx. They told me I can pick it up but yea… this is my first month nightmare owning a motorcycle in the city. I made so many mistakes so trust me you don’t have to remind me. Just wanted to share.
