What socks do you wear with Rick shorts and Geos/Ramones/Cargobaskets?

I don’t know anyone actually paying ~$100 to own a plain white or black pair of Rick socks.
In pictures of Rick wearing shorts, it looks like the socks come up the calves and work well with higher sneakers.
Does anyone have an affordable alternative? Uniqlo?
