Ammo for a S&W 1905 M&P revolver.

I just purchased a S&W 1905 .39 special M&P revolver. I also purchased some FMJ target ammo for it.
While looking up more info on the fun i discovered that, based on the serial number, my gun was likely produced before heat treated barrels were implemented and some online comments suggested that FMJ rounds would wear down the softer barrel.
I dont know much on this subject, anyone have a definitive answer? What kind of ammo would be best to shoot in this gun?
