How do I know that there's not a round in the chamber? (Separating and there's a gun in the house)
Post Body

I've asked my husband to leave, you can read the whole sordid deal here: https://www.reddit.com/r/relationship_advice/comments/fe3w50/husband_43m_had_affair_with_36f_that_he_wont/

We have a 38 Special in the home. He's still here with us and I never thought I would have to worry about this but I never thought so many things would happen. He said he was done but would stay in the home. I can't have that so I asked him to find a place. He's never been in a position with me where he is not in full control. I have to err on the side of caution especially because I have two children in the home.

Anyways, the gun is kept in a safe (no key) and the bullets are in there. As far as I know we kept rounds in it. Initially I was going to have my mom take the gun to her house without him knowing, but I think it's best if I just remove the bullets and put them in a different spot, BUT I've never handled the gun or any gun other than once or twice when he had shown me how to pull the trigger twice to shoot an intruder (which is why I think we keep it loaded). I know that you open the revolver and take the rounds out, but how can I verify that there isn't one in the chamber already? I've looked on youtube but all the videos talk about semi automatic handguns, not revolvers.

Ok, awesome. I know that there is a latch that you press on and it swings out, and of course to point it away and keep my finger off the trigger. Thank you so much. I'm already a wreck emotionally (Satruday will be our 16 year anniversary) and that will be one less thing to worry about.

Thanks I appreciate it.

I plan on doing that but this is something I need to get done today for my peace of mind.

Did you read the post in the other sub? It's a freaking novel, I don't think you want my rants, lol.

Update: I removed the bullets and placed them in a different spot. He packed and left last night after I told him what I needed to reconcile, but he showed up again and said he’s not going anywhere (not meaning that he wants to work it out but in a defiant fuck you tone). I just noticed that he checked the gun(the box was in a different spot on the closet shelf and he had opened a trinket box I have on our dresser) so I’m a little unsettled.

Dude, all I said was I was going to place the bullets in a different place. I never said anything about calling the cops on him or faking injuries. Where is that coming from?????

I’m not doing anything to the gun, I’m just removing the bullets and keeping them in a separate place. And the gun is a private sale so it’s not registered to him. The house is paid for in cash by my mom when we bought it a year ago and it’s under my mom’s and my name. He’s not on the deed.

It used to belong to my uncle, and my husband bought it from my aunt after he passed away.

I had no idea, thanks for pointing that out, especially since I have kids.
