Dolphin Core and Analogue Stick Sensitivity

Hey folks,

I've been absolutely loving using RetroArch lately but I've noticed that analogue sensitivity in the Dolphin core doesn't seem quite right.

In all the games I've tested, it seems the analogue sticks have very little travel; they snap very quickly to their full distance when being moved. It's most noticeable in TimeSplitters and Metroid Prime, and I think it has to do with the controller's analogue range not properly corresponding to the more circular shape of the GameCube's analogue range. The built-in analogue sensitivity option doesn't seem to fix the issue and instead prevents analogue sticks from traveling to their maximum values.

I know that Dolphin Standalone has a calibration option to fix this exact issue which is sadly missing in RetroArch at the moment, and as such I've been trying to copy the calibration settings from standalone's GCPadNew.ini into the GCPadNew.ini file located in RetroArch's saves/User/Config folder but have found that RetroArch simply overwrites them when starting any game that uses the Dolphin core.

I'm at a bit of a loss since this overwriting behaviour occurs for the Dolphin.ini file in the same folder, and even disabling autoconfiguration from within RetroArch doesn't seem to help. Shot in the dark, but has anyone had experience in trying to fix this issue?

EDIT: I did end up solving this issue.

Though RetroArch overwrites GCPadNew.ini, if this file is set to read-only, it also auto-creates a secondary file called GCPadNew.ini.xxx and uses that instead. If both of these files are set to read-only, it finally gives up and just uses one of them for its settings without creating a new file / overwriting one of them; if anyone else has struggled with control stick calibration in RetroArch for Dolphin, you can copy your Main Stick/Calibration and C-Stick/Calibration values from Dolphin's standalone GCPadNew.ini file and use this method to get RetroArch to accept them.
