I have a friend who has RLS. She will occasionally take three to five hour naps during the day, like 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. etc. I have to wonder if this is because of some side effect of the RLS medication. The way I understand the body's sleep systems, adenosine should not be making you sleep for 2 hours during the day and unless your melatonin system is really out of whack the same would apply there. I have no reason to believe that her circadian rhythms are screwed up. She usually goes to bed around 11:00 p.m. and wakes up between 6:00 and 7:00 am.
She has done this about 5 times in the past 8 weeks (that I know of).
Is this something that she needs to bring up with her doctor? I have asked her about it and she does not seem concerned.
I just don't know anybody that can sleep for more than an hour during the day and disturbed sleep patterns can indicate health problems.
