Would you continue to be a doctor if your maximum salary was 100k/year?
Post Body

In countries where doctors don't earn much, there's always a debate about whether the whole career is even worth it. I wanted to get the opinions of well-paid physicians (US/Canada/Aus/NZ). Do you think going through med school plus residency is justifiable for a salary of 100k per year as an attending pre-tax? Obviously more money is better, but at what point does it become a dealbreaker?

I used the 100k figure because it is the average consultant (attending) salary in the UK, where the low compensation is causing a great deal of dissatisfaction.

Touchy subject for sure. Please remove if inappropriate.
