Just finished residency and now working as an attending. I make decent money and am more than comfortable which leads to a bit of guilt.
For those making a Real Money, do you feel like your compelled to pay for meals, hangouts etc when out with friends? Even though they don’t expect it. I always feel like I’m secretly being judged even though I’m not and will offer to pay for group appetizers, the drinks, or if I’m one on one with someone, will offer to pay for their meal. I feel like habits like this add up and next thing you know your eating out expenses have exploded. I actually enjoy doing this for others but feel like it needs to be reigned in.
Thing is I also have other expenses that others may not like paying for my parents living or helping my brother get through college. So I’m not necessarily rolling through dough although I am certainly more than comfortable.
Best way to go about it this inner voice that says pay for others?
Tl;dr. New attending with money. Feel self pressured to pay for others.
