Applying to new apartment but current residence I'm not on the lease? What to do (CA)

Post Body

I moved to California (LA) in November last year and have been living with my partner and his roommate. We are all now looking to move to a new place but the current place only his roommate is on the lease, although we all split the rent.

We found a place we really like but they ask for contact info for current residence. I was just going to put the last place I lived before I moved and say I had been living with family for the few months here. But as far as my partner and the other roommate, he has lived here for 3 years and hasn't been on the lease and as far as the landlord knows only the one roommate lives here.

I didn't think it would be that big of an issue to just move out of this situation but I'm worried about the place we're applying to contacting the landlord and this causing a huge deal with her violating the lease, as well as my partner not having a rental history, although he could possibly also just say he was living with family or sub-leasing, but if they contact the landlord they might find out this has been done illegally.

The one roommate has lived here about 6 years although the landlords don't like her because she is frequently late on rent (only by a few days but still)

Any advice? The current lease ends in mid-June so we have to find somewhere soon
