Hi fellow renters! This is my first time in this situation and I’m looking for some advice on how to broach the topic with my landlord.
So a week ago (6/14) I got a call from the landlord, letting us know that the downstairs neighbors had a water spot on the ceiling in their kitchen, and they needed to come up to our apartment to check it out. Turns out our bathtub was installed wrong and they have to completely rip out and remodel the bathroom (1 bathroom unit). For the last week we have been without a shower/sink and they just started fixing the bathroom this Wednesday. Starting Monday, we will not have a toilet for an indeterminate amount of time. Thankfully, my roommate and I have family semi close by (30 minutes) so we’ve been able to drive there and shower, but it has been wildly inconvenient considering we pay a hefty amount to live five minutes away from work and we’re having to commute 30 minutes every day in order to shower. We will also have to stay with them when our toilet is gone.
Just wondering if it is reasonable for us to request a reduced rent for the month considering we haven’t been able to fully live here for a week at this point. Also what do I say when doing so? Sorry if this makes me sound like a spineless baby, I’m 22 and afraid of confrontation lol. (We’re in MD if that has anything to do with it)
Thank you in advance!

They would 100% get their money back through subrogation don’t you worry. They are not in the business of giving out free money.
