I rent at a complex of condos that some owners rent to people. I originally rented from another couple but when I couldn’t afford it and had to find a new place the property manager said that he helps some owners rent out there places and he had a place. It worked out perfect for my needs. My wife and the property manager tend to talk often since they are both smokers and he lets her know that he hasn’t been able to get in contact with the owner for the last 5 to 6 months. The property manager is saying not to worry about it BUT the reason they were trying to get a hold of him is because he hasn’t paid the HOA fee. That fee covers repairs around the building on top of all utilities and repairs to electrical or plumbing in the condos. Now the property manager is saying I wouldn’t worry because they just send the owner a fine for no payments. My lease ends at the end of September and there is still no contact with the owner. By October I won’t have a lease and with no HOA payment for the last 6 months how long until the HOA says fuck this. I’m in Los Angeles county and there is nothing for this price locally so I would have to move to the boonies. So the stupid question is should I be worried? Is there anything protecting me?
