So basically I've decided to remove the stone/concrete wall plateau that you see in the pictures. The one that holds the wood stove. It spans the entire length of the room and takes up too much space. Removing it means removing the flooring around it, too. Originally I thought I'd just tear out the entire living room floor and replace it. But to be honest, it's a great wooden floor and it just seems like I'd be destroying capital needlessly. Can anyone think of something creative to fix it back up? I imagine I'll remove the boards to just in front of the stone object, leaving a bare strip. The original boards aren't available anymore. To fix it back up, maybe something like a strip of natural stone/marble that continues into the wall?
I guess I'm just looking for something creative and stylish that doesn't look like an obvious band aid fix. Happy to hear ideas, please!
