Hey r/rengarmains,
Just wanted to give you guys a quick update on the playtests that we ran yesterday. A few things to cover:
(1) WHO - We had 10 Rengar mains come in to read over the kits and play a couple games on him. 5 of the players came from r/rengarmains! Also don't worry toplane Rengars, you were represented too (I believe about 4 of our players were mostly toplane players). For Rengar we felt that because he's a high-skill champ with that high-skill fantasy, it would be more worthwhile to grab plat players for the playtest. All 10 were either in Platinum or Diamond league.
(2) WHAT - Because of the time commitment we mostly look for initial impressions of the changes. Longer term game health feedback is typically covered by our dedicated playtest team, a group of diamond and masters players who play 5 game a day with new champs and updated champs; includes ROBERTxLEE, Gleeb, etc.
(3) PLS NO LEAKERINO - Players should NOT be sharing the kits, changes, results, feelings, whatever else here on the subreddit or elsewhere. They did sign NDAs, and it's pretty important for us to not let things leak, especially when it's still heavily WIP and we might still be iterating on it.
(4) NEXT STEPS - I read EVERYTHING that players write for feedback on champion updates (even the Leblanc player who responded to "what else do you want changed?" with "more boobs").
We consolidate everything into feedback that the design team goes over and we try to see what we can do to make the champion feel good for you while also maintaining our goals for Assassins and game health in general. We may change nothing on Rengar as the result of the playtest, we may change a lot of things, but we will definitely consider ALL feedback.
(5) THANKS - I've been running these playtests for a little over a year now. I've met hundreds of players testing all sorts of updates, new champs, other gameplay changes, etc., and this group was my favorite. It was sort of funny to say "we have... Rengar mains coming in to the lab tonight" and see the looks of horror on all the Rioters faces who play ADC or sona or whatever, but man you guys were a lot of fun.
So thank you! I'm not just trying to say that to win over the r/rengarmains community. Champion updates are always contentious. It's your baby. People are gonna be upset. Some will think we ruined Rengar. Some will really like it. But hopefully when the dust of the Assassins' patch settles we'll have done right by the stabby tabby.
