Hello !
I have a lot of discussions with friends on Hangouts, and we often share Reddit links.
Sadly, it always defaults to opening in the browser, which, on my old and trusty Galaxy S3, takes ages to do. Plus the mobile version of Reddit is awful when compared to the ease of use of a dedicated app.
So I set up and searched for a bit. Here's what I tried, based on suggestions found here and on the web :
- Resetted the default behaviour of all apps (System settings /applications manager / settings (3 dots) / reset)
- Checked under the system settings of Relay that it was configured to open reddit links. Tried with "always open within app" and "always let me choose".
- De-installed / re-installed Relay
- Installed the official Reddit app, in case it were an issue with Relay itself.
- Updated to the latest version of Hangouts.
Despite all this, the links to Reddit in Hangout now offer to choose between the two browsers I have on my phone (since I resetted the settings it's normal), but Relay isn't on the list.
What is odd is that, when clicking on a reddit link through the sms app, Relay appears in the pop-up, alongside the two browsers.
And even setting it to default to Relay through here doesn't change the behaviour in Hangouts.
So now, I believe the issue is on Hangout's side, but there seem to be nothing in the settings to change that behaviour.
Has anyone any idea about this ?
Thanks !
EDIT : SOLVED
Okay, apparently all I had to do was post here and the phone magically detected it and solved it by itself. This morning I clicked a reddit link from Hangouts, and it offered me to open in up in Relay... I've set it to default and now it works just as expected.
Jokes aside, things I did since yesterday, that might be related :
- After having reset all applications behaviour setting (see above), I set up my default browser again (so clicking a link in Hangout no longer offered me a pop-up).
- I rebooted the phone, more by accident than by choice.
Those are the only thing I can think of that I did since yesterday, that could have an impact here.
Probably the reboot is the more important one, but who knows.
Anyway, leaving this here in case future people end up here from a raw google search. (if a mod wants to remove it, be my guest though)
