Is it possible for an English speaker to become a football (soccer) referee in Portugal? I'm moving to Portugal in a few months and hope to carry on my two-decade semi-pro refereeing career once I'm there (I've been a State/Regional Ref (Grade 6) in the US and a Country Referee (Grade 6) in the UK. I'm trying to learn Portuguese, but it's very hard at my age (50), and I'll never be fluent. Does anyone know if there's a way to get registered as a ref in Portugal without speaking Portuguese? I expect to be able to say things like "That's a foul for tripping" ("Isso é uma falta por tropeçar") or "Yellow card for dissent" ("Cartão amarelo para dissidência"), but not anything more complex. It might even help not to understand what most of the spectators are yelling at me :-) .
