Question about the use of hands/arms against opponents

Post Body

Is it truly illegal for a player to use their hands or arms against an opponent in any way? For example, when players use their arms for a slight push/pull or when players use their hands/arms to prevent a defender from taking the ball away. I know that if not much force is used, most of us let this stuff go. However, would these things technically be a foul by the letter of the law? Was there some old wordage that’s has changed over the years that did indicate this?

I was having this discussion with a colleague today and we couldn’t come to a consensus. Thanks!
