Hello all. So grateful for this forum of fellow reel lovers. I am retired and have always wanted a RTR set up. Today I purchased an AKAI GX-365. Its a barn find. All original packaging, box with original foam and plastic bags. Came with an aluminum Named take up reel ( is that stock?). Now playing the demo tape it came with. The slight accent on the Japanese announcer is cool to listen to as the tape goes thru different demo sounds, etc!! Also came with a head demagnitizer and a splicer, both also in original boxes with instructions. Deck has original instruction book as well. Came with 5-6 new in boxes unrecorded tapes and 22 recorded episodes of the orginal star trek (former owner a trekkie?!!haha) and 6 recorded tapes of some classical music. Wood case is in like new condition just a few small impressions in the luan mahogany box cover. It absoultely sounds great right now I am so pleased with my new toy. I am a bit of an audiophile with an extensive classic 60's-80's vinyl which I plan on making playlist tapes from over the next few months. Next step is to integrate it inot my stereo set up, but will need to access or make some cables there. Bought the whole lot for $175US. Any thing a newbie needs to know right out of the gate? I am an electrical engineer by trade. Peace out folks, I am happy to be here!!!
