Rizal - Mindoro bike trip
Post Body

Over 400 KMS one way, just to see the love of my life.

My girl (doctor) went on a mission trip for the Mangyan tribe in Mindoro last April 14-16. I told her I would come and she asked me "how?" so I answered her like a badass motherfucker and said that "I'll be riding all the way.... on my bike" she didn't believe at first but I was really wanting to go out on a tour with my bike..

April 14 - morning, I brought my bike to my friend's shop for a maintenance session and told him about my awesome plan. He's pretty anxious I would do it since I am a trail rider and I'm not a fan of riding on roads. But I told him I would do it. *cue MLTR - NOTHING TO LOSE cause really, I've got nothing to lose on this ride.

April 14 - noon, I went to Wetshop in Greenhills and bought electrolyte gels for my trip. Told the lady over the counter who knows me for the numerous times I've been at their store about my plan and she was really excited for me and the outcome of my trip. Told her I would post updates on my facebook so she, my other friends and bike group could get an update from my trip (she's on my friend's list).

April 14 - 6pm, brought my 60L backpack and packed my shit out like a motherfucker. I said I need this I need that (most of the things I packed, I didn't use.. sad lol)

April 14 - 11pm, rode out to Batangas Port.

MAN! I rode for 6 hours, 1 stop to catch a breather. When I reached the port I was instructed to go back to the entrance to get an E ticket for my bike (65 pesos) so I could take it on the boat with me. I was like, yeah sure. After that, I proceeded to the ticket booth for Montenegro lines and paid ~200 pesos to Calapan, Mindoro.

April 15, morning - On the boat, exhaustion hasn't got the best of me so I did what any other cool dude would do... Buy some beers for the 2 hour crossing. I had 3 San Miguel Pilseners, drank them by the front deck and went back to the top deck to rest a little bit. I fell asleep not knowing we were just 30 minutes away from port. I was the last person to alight the boat and the guy who woke me up was pretty much pissed cause ya know 3 red bulls and 3 beers dont mix in your system really well.

Off the vessel, I asked the guard where the nearest bank is (my best friend is from Mindoro and he said he'd hook me up with his uncle so I could have somewhere to sleep to.)

April 15, noon - my best friend's uncle hooked me up with some beers. 3 fucking literes of red horse! hell yas!

April 16, dawn- I rode out at 2 am heading to Roxas, Mindoro. I headed to the nearest Mc Donalds for a quick breakfast and hangover cure. An hour and a half into my trip it rained. IT.FUCKING.RAINED.LIKE.HELL. The wiser version of me would have taken this as a sign not to continue but what did I do? I waited it out and hit the road again.

April 16, noon - I reached Roxas! I went to their city center and saw a bike shop, I had to catch a breather! The guy who owns it is nice too! He gave me free food and a free maintenance check on my bike!

April 16, afternoon - Finally reached the mission site. Now, next question. How do I get back in town with my girlfriend? She couldn't ride on the top tube!

  • that ends my one way trip to Mindoro. Pictures at the bottom!
