Question for the ladies, how do you show you are interested in someone?

What type of hints do you give off? Touching, laughing at his/her jokes etc?
I feel like I missed a hint with a girl and now she stopped talking to me because I took too long. So I need some pointers on potential hinting techniques to hopefully avoid this in the future :)
